Siachen demilitarization: NJ 9842

What is NJ 9842?
The northernmost demarcated point of the India-Pakistan cease fire line known as the Line of Control. The line was formally accepted as a cease fire line as per Shimla Agreement signed on July 3, 1972
Demilitarization possible because
·         There is a critical mass of opinion on in both India and Pakistan that neither can sacrifice so many lives on the inhospitable glacier
·         It is diplomatically possible as per personal equation of both country’s PM
